Boondocking at Thousand Lakes RV Park, 1 mile west of Torrey UT on Highway 24, 6 miles west of Capital Reef. Fee $10 , full hookup $28.50, water free, dump $5 (may be negotiable). Numerous hikes in Capital Reef and the surrounding area, many slots. Boulder Mt. and Fish Lake recreation areas nearby. Visit Goblin Valley as a day trip and Little Wild Horse Canyon, "one of the best slot canyons in the world". Off-road trips thru Cathedral Valley Loop & Notom-Bullfrog Burr Trail Loop. Kayaking, petroglyphs, Fruita Historical District. Fun, fun!!



June 11-18 MOAB, UT ARCHES NP, CANYONLANDS NP Host: Bill Gott #3046 Co-Host: Sue Hall #3016   CAMPING IS FULL Coordinates: 38.575202, -109.633687.  

Three miles north of Moab on Hwy 191 turn west on Hwy 279. Travel south west on Hwy 279 for 10 miles to the BLM campground on the south side of the road next to the Colorado River. There will be no parking available before June 11th. Reserved parking at Gold Bar (BLM group campsite).   Limited parking so reservations are required.  The cost is $25 for the full week of camping.  To guarantee a parking site contact Joanne Jones send an email to jonesgypsyjo@gmail.com or 248-765-1411 by May 10th.

June 18- 25   GRAND JUNCTION, CO   Host:  Peggy Ballard #2080

Parking at Mesa County Fair Grounds, 2785 Highway 50, Grand.   We will be boondocking at $10 per night.  Enjoy a great time kayaking, hiking, biking, and dancing on the valleys best dance floor. Water and dump at Fruita Welcome Center exit 19, 10 miles east of fairgrounds.



June 25- July 8 EL JEBEL/ASPEN AREA, CO   Host:  Judy Dysart #2545 Co-Host: Steven Hallack #2953  

GPS: N39.396975, W107.092143 – Elevation: 6484 ft.

        

Directions: From I-70 at Glenwood Springs, go to CO 82 toward Aspen, travel on CO 82 for approximately 19 miles, turn left at stoplight in front of Wendy's (on left) onto El Jebel Rd, go approx 2/10 miles to Gillespie Dr, turn left. Go past main Bus Stop Parking, and immediately turn right into secondary dirt parking lot, go thru lot to empty field behind. Parking fee is $70 per rig for 14 days. Parking is in a big empty field in small town--bring water and empty other tanks. El Jebel, CO: 18 miles from Aspen and/or Glenwood Springs: Gold Medal trout streams, fantastic hiking (all levels), music concerts, 4th of July celebrations/parades in 3 towns, hot springs, 2 ghost towns, white water rafting, Fairy Caves, Maroon Bells Wilderness Area, bowling and golf and much more. That road is the one taken to one of the ghost towns, Ashcroft.  A hike beyond leads to some hot springs.  Dump/water nearby for fee.



July 8-13 LEADVILLE AREA, CO Host:  Mary Bierbaum #3007

GPS: N39.421359, W106.316313 – Elevation: 9313 ft. 

Camping is at Camp Hale Memorial Campground, Dowds Junction, CO.  GPS Take I-70 west to the Minturn exit (#171), Follow US 24 south through town of Minturn and continue 14 miles from the interstate to a valley opening.  Turn onto the second major turnoff for Camp Hale, on the left (east) side, marked by stone pillars.

To reach the group campground, go to the end of the road and turn right. Continue on the road until you see the sign for the East Fork Campground on the right.  Turn right here and keep right into the campground.  Parking fee is $10 per night, or less, depending on the number of rigs.  The cost of camping has been paid up front to guarantee a group site.

Lots to do. There is a walking tour of Leadville available which includes historic Silver Dollar Saloon built in 1879.



July 13-19 WALDEN, CO   Host:  Karen Lesco #2846 Verizon 307-630-2841

GPS: N40.83794, W106.30366 – Elevation: 7971 ft.

New location.   Cowdrey Lake.  N of Walden,CO on Hwy 125.  Approximately  7 miles after crossing the bridge just north of downtown Walden turn left.  This is just prior to MP 61.  County Rd. 39.    Watch for WIN signs.  Free. If you arrive at the community of Cowdrey you have missed the turn.  Kayaking, hiking, fishing, day trips.

           

July 19-26   CHEYENNE FRONTIER DAYS, WY   Host:  Ila Fox (307-630-3001) #603

GPS: N41.132051, W104.781548 – Elevation: 6060 ft.

Dry camping at VFW 1881, 2816 E 7th St, for $3/night fee.  Water and dump on the grounds. VFW has approved the parking and group should have use of bar/lounge and meeting room areas unless conflict.

Directions: Go east on I-80 from I-25 and I-80 junction, exit at College Drive #367, turn left/north to light at 16th St, turn left/west and street name changes to Nationway/16th St, will see VFW ahead in quarter mile on left, go through light and turn left at next turn (Hot Springs St) and follow gravel road to left and into VFW parking area, look for host rv for parking directions. Trains and refinery lights will provide noise and illumination--but the cost is great. Rodeo and night shows info is on-line and tickets can be purchased there or at local ticket office. Slack roping events every am, rodeo afternoons begin 21 July, night shows begin 20 July, parades on Sat, Tues and Thurs, pancake breakfasts are Mon and Wed. VFW is on the Greenway bike/walk routes.   



July 26-Aug 1   LONGMONT, CO    Hosts:  Phil Cafferty #2935 and Diana Tolerico #1210 Rocky Mountain Park East Side

Longmont Moose Lodge, 2210 Pratt St, Longmont, CO 8050,

Boondocking $5 per night. Planned Activities: The Callahan House tour, Doughtery Auto Museum, Bruce's Bar in Severence for Rocky Mountain Oysters, Country dancing at the Moose, Hot Air Balloon rides, Golden Ponds/ St. Vrain Greenway hike or bike, Mile-High Skydiving, Rocky Mountain National Park (southeast trails), Jester's Dinner Theater (My Fair Lady), Grizzly Rose dinner and dancing, Sandstone Ranch Park hike, Switzerland trail/ Pennsylvania Gulch/ Glacier Lake 4WD, and possibly Coors Brewery tour. Dump and water at the Fairgrounds, 9595 Nelson Rd 8am-4pm. 



Aug 1-7 DENVER, CO   Host:  Mary Bierbaum #3007

Camping: Standley Lake Regional Park, 9785 Eagle View Loop, Westminster, CO 80021

Directions: Take I-70 to Exit 269A (Wadsworth Boulevard). Head north on Wadsworth Boulevard (Wadsworth Boulevard becomes Wadsworth Parkway) to W 100th Avenue. Head west on W 100th Avenue to Simms Street. Turn left (South) on Simms St for 1/3 miles to above coordinates. Daily Dry Camping: $12 night and a daily pass fee of $7. A annual Senior Pass of $16 is available.  It is best to buy the Senior Pass which would make camping about $15 a night



Aug 7- 13 COLORADO SPRINGS, CO Host:  Deannie Benge #2060

GPS: N38.734725, W104.732451 – Elevation: 5690 ft.

Location: American Legion (AL). Gravel parking lot. BD: $7/night. Address: 6685 Southmoor Dr, Fountain, CO 80817.  Fountain is about 10 miles S. of Colorado Springs. American Legion is approx. 2 miles E. of I-25.  Experience spectacular sites: Garden of the Gods, the Royal Gorge, Pikes Peak, Manitou Springs, the old mining town of Cripple Creek and Victor. Sun, Aug 12, American Legion will have their annual "PIG ROAST" with fixings, a live band and other activities. Dump at local KOA, cost.  Limited water available at AL.



Aug 13-20    SALIDA, CO Co-hosts: Diana Tolerico #1210 and Phil Cafferty #2935

GPS: N38.507251, W105.960691 – Elevation: 7000 ft.

Directions:  Dry camping at boat ramp on BLM land in Bighorn Canyon, along river.  Take highway 50, about 2 miles east of town between County Roads 101 and 102. 

Huge indoor hot spring pool, whitewater rafting, tram, ziplines, wineries, Victorian buildings.  Dump and water at Chamber of Commerce, 406 W Hwy 50, donation requested.



Aug 20-22  HOOPER, CO Host: Deannie Benge #2060.

1991 CO. Rd. 63, Hooper, CO. Directions: from Salida, CO, go south on US 285; turn Left at junction w/CO 17. Follow signs to "Sand Dunes Pool."

GPS: N37.778851, W105.855488 – Elevation: 7552 ft.

Play in the NATURAL HOT ARTESIAN WATER. Arrive early afternoon, Aug 20, leave mid-afternoon, Aug 22. Parking at San Dunes Swimming Pool and RV Park. Very large pool and a 25-person therapy pool (hot). They have a great concession stand, voted "Best Concession Stand in CO." They offer their own hot-house grown tomatoes, cucumbers and basil. Cost: 1. BD-$15/night (we're staying 2 nights). Pool pass-$5/day senior. Bottom line: 2 nights camping and 2 days use of pools $40. 2. Elec/wat-$25/night. NO dump.

                        

Aug 22-25 ALAMOSA/GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARK, CO Host:  Deannie Benge #2060 Parking location to be determined.  Visit the Great Sand Dunes National Park, Rio Grande Scenic RR which travels E., Pike's Stockade, Jack Dempsey Museum and Park.



Aug 25-29 CREEDE AND SOUTH FORK AREA, CO   Host:  Ron Sawchenko #2754 and Patty Eckert #3004

GPS: N37.74126, W107.02751 – Elevation: 8983 ft.

Take Hwy 160 west to South Fork, then Hwy 149 to Creede, pass Creede 11 miles. Turn Right on US Forest Service Rd 509. (Seepage Creek) Look for WIN signs. We are parking in meadow, no fees, and no facilities. Come with water and empty tanks. 4X4, Underground Mining Museum, Rio Grande River, old mines, hiking. Look for signs. 



 Aug 29-Sept 4 PAGOSA SPRINGS, CO Host:  Margaret Murray #3125

GPS: N37.213527, W107.272683 – Elevation: 6828 ft.

Camping is in Ute San Juan National Forest Campground west of town on 160, Visit the Hot springs; kayak San Juan River; hike; visit Chimney Rock Archeological Site.  August 29th free tour of world renowned horse trainer Pat Parelli Horsemanship Ranch and stay for campfire cookout & entertainment $10.  Four Corners Folk Festival August 31 to Sept 2. Tickets are $50 a day if purchased before April 30.  They will be $60 at gate. Check website for 2 or 3 day passes.

Parking at La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave, in the heart of Durango, CO. No early arrivals.  Lots to do in area including Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, historical district, Diamond Bell Saloon, gourmet restaurant, museums, theater, shopping, biking, and hiking.  Southern Ute Pow Wow at Tribal Center.  Boondocking on asphalt at $10 per night with WIFI capability, showers and other amenities   RV dump and water available 5 miles away at Visitors Center.

WIN BREAK” on your own to prepare for Monument Valleys and Grand Canyon Areas.  To do shopping, laundry, etc.  Wal-Mart 1835 E Main St, Cortez, CO for parking.  Use the top parking lot and to the East side.

Location change. Parking now is located outside of Bluff UT off hwy 162 east
of US hwy 163 just north of Bluff. Go east on hwy 162 about 2-21/2 miles to opening in fence on right with gravel drive into large circle area. Dry camping. No water or dump present, but available at Bluff campgrounds and Sand Island BLM former campsite. Coordinates for entrance:

Oct 8-18 GRAND CANYON NAT’L PARK, South Rim., Host:  Mark Cotter #2947            N 35.926463, W112.130238 - Elevation: 6600

Directions: From hwy 64 south of Tusayan between mile markers 232 & 233 (just S of Ten-X CG), drive east on FR-688.  We will be camping either 0.3 miles or 1.0 miles on FR-688.  Camp area on FR-688 will be determined by number of rigs attending gathering.   Dump and water available in a Grand Canyon campground.  Hiking the glorious Grand Canyon, sunsets, sunrises, free camping in the national forest, bike rides, IMAX, site seeing and perhaps a tour of the historic lodge and more.

    

 Oct 18-28 BOULDER City/LAS VEGAS AREA, NV   Host:  Joanne Jones #2341

Camp Boulder Beach Campground. N36.035761, W-114.802224   From Boulder City take US93 to bottom of hill and turn left to Lake Mead NRA.  Need Golden Age for discount entry fee.  Short drive to right turn into campground.  Dump and water available.  Visit Las Vegas, kayak Lake Mead, swim, and relax.

“WIN BREAK” on your own to stock up for Death Valley.  Groceries are pricey in Death Valley. Parking is available at the Moose Lodge 1361 Moose Street. 



Oct 31-Nov 16 DEATH VALLEY, CA Host:  Joyce Ufford #3066

GPS: N36.453803, W116.862536 – Elevation: -125 ft.

Camping is at Sunset Campground.  Dump and water at campground.  Camping fee $6 with Senior Pass, $12 without pass.

Enjoy mining cabins, ghost towns, hiking, warm water fed swimming pool, and music.  Pre-Encampment activities November 4th thru 6th.   Possibility of community wide potluck at a wagon train encampment. 

The 63rd Annual Death Valley '49ers Encampment begins Wednesday, November 7th and runs until Sunday, November 11th, 2012Last years membership was 2 for $35.  Check website for details.  www.deathvalley49ers.org    Gather a team Prospector Races.  Parade, gold panning, photo contest, painting class, music day and night.

Time to remember


Here we are in Yuma and the sun is shining so fine....but that old north wind in cooold.

Here is David some years back when I got to fly with him. Too bad he has to fly on Christmas Day.
